Ghana’s former leader, Jerry Rawlings has expressed support for President Muhammad Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, even as he desires his safe return to the country.

Rawlings, who described Buhari’s emergence as president of Nigeria as divinely ordained absolved him from blame over the current economic downturn in the country and advised that his reforms be well implemented so as not to unleash untold economic hardship on ordinary citizens.

For him the ongoing economic crisis in Nigeria stemmed from the endemic corruption that plagued the nation over the years.

“But I guess you need a creative team that would know how to resolve the economic situation of the country without possibly undermining the cost of living of the people,” he
said.

Also expressing his wishes for the speedy recovery of Buhari, who is currently in the United Kingdom on medical vacation, Rawlings frowned on the ill intentions of some persons, who do not want him to return.

“So while some people are praying for his health some are praying that he wouldn’t return,” Rawlings said obviously referring to media reports emanating from Nigeria.

Likening the regime of Buhari to that of Ghana’s new president, Nana Akufo-Addo, Rawlings described both leaders as divinely ordained to redeem both countries from the canker of corruption.

The former Ghanaian leader made the comments while addressing Nigerian actors, including Pete Edochie, who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence.
