Photos: "I Don’t Accept Gifts From People" – Aisha Buhari

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has said that she has not received any gift from anyone since becoming the President’s wife. Mrs Buhari, who spoke at the unveiling of a new campaign against graft tagged, “Women Against Corruption” project in Abuja on Wednesday, December 7th, at the International Conference Center, ICC, Abuja said that she did not also intend to collect gifts as the wife of the president even in future.

“People have been trying to bring some gift items to me but I have not been collecting them. Right from when I was campaigning with the Wife of the Vice President for our husbands, we did not take a dime from anyone and we have continued like that till today.

“I have never collected any gift and I am not ready to do so even in the future,” she said, and received thunderous applause from the audience made up of top government officials, outstanding Nigerian women and businessmen.

According to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu,
"The choice of women is strategic, because we believe that they are torch-bearers in the anti-corruption crusade, and it is because of the important role they play in making the society a better place," He further added that:
"The WAC project is aimed at galvanizing Nigerian women to buy into the corruption fight and also to raise the consciousness of the consequences of corruption in the minds of their households.
The project will further be taken to the grassroots through the states and local governments across the country.
