Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, a journalist with Daily Trust, has received $100, 000 as winner of the Nigeria Prize for Literature sponsored by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited.
Presentation of the cash prize took place yesterday at a public presentation held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Ibrahim urged parents not to stifle the writing dreams and ambitions of their children.
He also thanked his family, friends, colleagues, publishers and all of those who invested their time and resources as well as faith in his work.

The event, which included a documentary on NLNG and on Ibrahim, was attended by members of the public, as well as dignitaries and writers, including the Minister for
Information, Lai Mohammed, Professor Isidore Idiala, Chairman of Media Trust, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, the Editor-in-Chief, Mannir Dan Ali, as well as other government officials.

Speaking at the event, the Media Trust chairman said the company will continue to support its staff and other Nigerians to excel in literature and other endeavours. He said
“This company is very proud of a staff, who on his own stead is able to do this kind of work. We do hope we create the kind of environment that nurtures young people like him to do what they are capable of doing not just in their day to day work as journalist, but also in the creative endeavour, that they show themselves capable of doing. So for us, we are happy for him and it also reflects on us as a newspaper and reminds us that our responsibility is not just to tell the news, but also create people who will impact other areas of life in Nigeria.”
