How Erelu Abiola Dosunmu Lost The Three Men She Cherished Most Within Six Months

image
For Erelu of Lagos, Princess Abiola Sherifat Dosunmu, the last few months have been the most horrendous of her life. She was visited with a spate of deaths, which claimed the three men she cherished most in her life.
In the early hours of Monday, February 2, 2015, Erelu Dosunmu’s world was shattered when her soulmate and confidant, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, the business Titan and grand society patriarch, died. The strong bond, shared by this duo is well known within the Lagos social circle. During the period when Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos feuded with Erelu Dosunmu, and she was eased out of Iga Idugaran palace, she found solace in Okoya-Thomas, who stood by and comforted her. We gathered that the late Asoju Oba of Lagos also facilitated
the reconciliation between her and Oba Akiolu.

Erelu Dosunmu was still smarting from the shock, occasioned by Okoya-Thomas’ death when the news of the transition of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife hit her on July 29, 2015. She was distraught and devastated.
Even though she was never married to Oba Sijuwade, Erelu Dosunmu was an integral part of his life. Her affair with the late first class Yoruba monarch further plunged her into the bad book of her estranged husband, Ambassador Anthonio Oladeinde Fernandez. He swore never to forgive her for romancing his bosom friend.

Erelu Dosunmu was yet to get over the death of Oba Sijuwade, when she was thrown into mourning. Her estranged husband and the true love of her life, Anthonio Dehinde Fernandez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative to the United Nations, died in Belgium on Tuesday, 1 September, 2015. The deceased, who died at the age of 86, was married to Erelu Dosunmu for over 20 years, and the union produced a daughter, Antoinette Oyinkansola Fernandez. Their marriage, though tumultuous in nature, was a well celebrated affair within the Lagos Social Establishment.
imageFew years ago, their relationship took a more downward side when Ambassador Fernandez publicly requested that Erelu Dosunmu should drop his name. Subsequently, the Lagos princess resorted to her maiden name, Dosunmu.

Ambassador Fernandez did not only force Erelu Dosunmu to drop his name, he also severed the relationship between her and Oyinkansola, her daughter.

For many years Oyinkasola could not relate with her mother. She was reported to have nursed the fear of being cut off from her father’s inheritance.
imageIn her quest to reconcile with Fernandez, Erelu Dosunmu sought the intervention of one of his close friends, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
imageUnfortunately, Obasanjo’s intervention moves further strained his friendship with Ambassador Fernandez. Invariably, Erelu found more ‘solace’ in Obasanjo, as the two of them ended up becoming closer than necessary.

However, we gathered that Ambassador Fernandez and Erelu Dosunmu were able to reconcile shortly before he took ill.

Before her marriage to Fernandez, Erelu Dosunmu was married to Major Tunde Elegbede, the father of her two eldest children- Kunle and Adewunmi. The marriage ends when Elegbede died.
Erelu Dosunmu also had an affair with Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, (Triple A), the former Minister of Finance and a top member of the Sokoto Caliphate. The affair is believed to have produced Ademide, her last child.
